Coming from Brisbane, Queensland, and of Maltese origin, Callus, graduated in Iona College, he was coached by Chris Urquhart, spent the beginning of his career as the understudy of fellow Australians Michael Klim and Chris Fydler. After finishing fourth in the 100 m freestyle at the 2000 Australian Championships, Callus was selected to make his debut at the age of 21 at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the 4x100 m freestyle relay.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Sydney 2000 Olympic Games gold medallist as a member of Australia's world record breaking 4x100m free relay team....won bronze in 4x100m free and was fourth in 50m free at 2008 Olympic Games….2002 FINA World Short Course 100m free champion….has won a World Championship, two Commonwealth and one Pan Pacific gold medal as a member of the 4x100m free relay team….Commonwealth and Pan Pacific 100m free silver medallist….has won two gold and two silver at three Commonwealth Games.…three time Australian champion.
